$25 Bonus for New ING Direct Account

I received a promotion in the mail from ING Direct for a $25 bonus when you open an ING Direct Savings Account, but can't take advantage of this because I already opened an ING Direct account. If you have never opened an ING Direct account - this is a no brainer. You can deposit just $1 when you open your account and get the $25 bonus. There aren't any catches or suprises as long as you have never opened an account with ING Direct previously. To earn your $25 bonus the promotion instructs you to go to ingdirect.com/save and enter Reference Code D295X. I'm assuming this will work for anyone that uses it.

Here is the fine print on the promotion:

Bonus only available for new accounts with a new Customer as primary owner. Only one bonus will be provided per household. Worth $25 only when deposited in a new ING Direct Orange Savings Account. $25 bonus starts earning interest upon acount opening, but it unavailable for withdrawal for 30 days, Valid through 12/31/2009 - do it today!

You sold me. I just signed up and now am waiting for the two small deposits to clear to verify my existing account. Too bad you can only take advantage once.

And don't forget, your $25 will be reported to the IRS as income, so you'll have to claim it and pay taxes on it. Not such a windfall.

This was too easy to pass up, so I just signed up.
Still not sure if its worth the hit my FICO credit score may take though, maybe on the order of 5 points or so as a result of the hard inquiry.

I signed up - Got my $25 and $0.07 too. I didn't read any of the print, My bad... Hard inquiry to Credit Score? Dang! he good thing though - I already had Sharebuilder accounts so was able to link everything up nicely... and move $$ from my brokerage cash balances to earn a little interest before I re-invest it.
