November 2005 Net Worth Update (+$8,582)

Here's my net worth update for November as of 11/30/2005. A terrific month in large part due to a nice market upswing and significant share price gains in IBM and Merck. I am very close to my EOY goal of $205,000 and should easily reach it even if the market is unfavorable.

Note: I have renamed "Home Equity" to "Rental Equity" to more accurately reflect the equity is in a rental home and not my primary residence.

Highlights for November:
-I focused on improving my credit score this month by paying off 2 of my 4 0% Balance Transfer offers since I found out my credit score was taking a small beating.
-I started thinking about my growing tax liability and what I could do to minimize it.
-I also wondered whether it was worth continuing to participate in the IBM ESPP.
-I revealed my secret to getting lots of free food thanks to little known beer rebates.

-Stock Investments for October (Outside of 401k & ESPP):
$400 in Pfizer DRIP
$250 in Roth IRA

Since I am more of a visual person, I entered the net worth percent changes for the past three months (when available) of personal finance bloggers and created the following graph:http://neos-nest-egg.blogspot.com/2005/12/personal-finance-bloggers-net-worth_06.htmlNeo

I am a fellow IBMer and am impressed with your records here. However, I think there is one thing you are missing, but it depends on how long you have been at IBM. IBM's retirement plan for people in your age bracket, assuming you were hired before Jan. 1 2005, is called the PPA. You can check your PPA balance online, and it is something that you can take with you if you ever leave IBM, once you are fully vested that is. This money can be rolled over to a traditional IRA whenever you leave, so I consider it hard cash. If you have been at IBM since getting out of college, this could be a significant contributor to your overall networth. Just for comparison sake, I am 32, and my PPA balance is around $30k.

Good catch on the PPA - I am well aware of the PPA and have mentioned in in planning for my 2006 net worth goal, however I am not vested yet so I don't count that as an asset yet. But don't worry as soon as I am vested later next year I will be all over it- it should be a nice pop in my net worth ;-).
