Investment Performance November 2009 (+5.83%)

This is an ongoing monthly update on how our equity investments are performing. Please see this background on the investment tool I developed and how I am using it to track our performance against a benchmark to measure our progress or lack thereof.

Its still a work in progress, any feedback is appreciated and may be incorporated into future monthly reports. The only equity investments not covered are:
1) my 401k which is invested in institutional index funds through my employer that I haven't found a tracking symbol for.
2) investments roughly worth less than $500, simply because I don't have the time and energy to keep up with them. I am thinking I will sell these off at some point and add the proceeds to my current investment portfolio because they are too much work to track.

November Highlights:

  • Our investments slightly topped our benchmark for the month of November, not helped by a rash of purchases at the beginning of the month.
  • We purchased new holdings in Radian, American Technology Corp, Union Bancshares, and Bank of America this month. Most of these investments were recommended by my brother so we are gambling a bit.
  • Our monthly returns for 2009: Jan -4.98%, Feb -9.94%, Mar +8.45%, Apr +10.88%, May +4.65%, Jun +0.89%, Jul +9.94%, Aug +4.36%, Sept 3.15%, Oct -2.34%, Nov +5.83%.....

Cool report. This makes me want to create a similar report and track my investment income. I do track it, but not on a monthly basis. Thanks for the idea.

People have stopped making comments on your blog because you have stopped answering. I know you have a baby now but if you don't answer comments than they will begin to fall off and so will your website!

The latest net worth reports appear entirely driven by stock market fluctuations (and luck with timing). In fact I could just lookup the S&P return for that month and have a reasonable idea what I'll see coming here.

This make the blog content rather difficult to relate to now - and to be honest when the stock picks are based on "stock tips from my brother" it doesn't really give the impression the site admin really knows what he's doing, and makes it hard to take useful ideas from the blog.

So indeed, speaking only for myself, my interest in the site has far diminished.
