Vacation in Thailand

One of the goals that my wife and I have while we are on assignment in China is to get out and see this part of the world. We have done a pretty poor job so far as I have been swamped at work and my wife has been settling in. We finally got around to planning a week long trip to Pattaya and Bangkok in Thailand during Chinese New Year.

  • We booked our flights on AirAsia which in our experience is a great low cost airline. However, due to us waiting to the last minute to book our tickets our roundtrip flights cost us around $350USD/ticket.
  • I booked the Dusit hotel in Pattaya on hotels.com. The hotel was great (but a little dated) and included a delicious free breakfast buffet in our room rate of about $140/night including taxes and fees. In retrospect we should have stayed at a cheaper (not waterfront) since we didn't spend anytime on the beach.
  • We booked the Courtyard Marriott in Bangkok online using my employer's corporate rate. It was a new hotel and in a great location to get around. Using the employer rate was a great way to get a great rate at the last minute.

Sounds like a really fun trip. I'm sure a lot of us would love to see any pics you took of your vacation.

Sounds like you had a great little trip. I'm totally jealous, I'd love to go to Thailand one day I hear its beautiful - but this trip might have to wait a few years.

How's your placement in China coming along? How's does the culture compare to North America?

Wow, good for you guys! Traveling is the one thing i have absolutely no problem spending money on. It's such a fabulous way to get culture in ya.

Although, living in China does the trick as well :)

We are heading to Phuket in a few months. You never made it there, did you? If so, can I pick your brain on any tips you might have?
