Highlights for August

  • All credit card debt (except current month's purchases) is in the form of 0% APR balance transfers earning interest in my savings accounts. We paid off the last of our 0% balance transfers in January. The well has dried up for now, but we are ready to take advantages if any offers come our way.

  • We track our real estate properties according to our cost basis (with the exception of House #3 which we may be selling soon).

  • We feel pretty flush after 5 months of plus $15k growth. We continued to keep focus on keeping our expenses to a minimum in August. However we are planning some significant expenses for September - a new mattress set and some expenses to prepare House #3 to be listed for sale.
  • We reshuffled some of our mortgage debt by opening an IELOC on House #2 and paying off primary mortgage.
  • We recharacterized some of some of my wife's 2008 Roth IRA contributions this month to non-deductible traditional IRA contributions. We were forced to do this due to some of my employers job expense reimbursements from our international assignment being treated as taxable income. This moved some funds from our Roth IRA category to our Pre-tax retirement accounts. I plan to convert these contributions back to Roth IRA contribution in 2009 or 2010.
  • August was another good month for our stock investments. I'll post our August update soon. We added s mall holdings in Markel and Genworth.
  • Baby 2million is growing so fast! She is 4 months old this month and our stockpile o diapers and baby wipes is nearly depleted. I started stocking up again by spending $100+ on 3 mega boxes from this Target diaper deal.

May 2010 Net Worth Update (-$23, 287) (Jun 02, 2010) Finally the market started waking up to reality and equities pretty much sank the entire month sinking our net worth along with it. We put a good chunk of cash to work this month scooping up perhaps a bit too...

Are you tracking & including your 529 or other college-savings plans in your Net Worth updates?

IBMer - good question! I haven't had a chance to discuss this yet. At this point 529 savings is not in our net worth. I sort of consider that my daughter's money at this point - no sense in inflating my balance sheet with those assets.
