We're Expecting!

This announcement is well overdue, but as it turns out with all of the other stuff going on in our lives (moving back from China, new job, buying a new house), my wife and I are expecting our first child in May.

We actually discovered this while we were packing up to move back to the US from China. Late one night my wife asked me to go out and get a pregnancy test. All the pregnancy tests were labeled in Chinese (that I can't read) so I found a lady shopper (who spoke no English) and did my best to impersonate a pregnant woman and asked her to point to the symbol on the instructions. Needless to say it took a while and that poor woman probably has lost all respect for Americans. I finally got what I needed to know and brought the test back. After it was all said and done, my wife didn't even believe the results since she could not read it on the box. We eventually confirmed it though once we got back to the US.

This certainly changes some priorities for us, but we can't wait! It will be exciting to see how things evolve and how this will impact our lives and our financial goals.

Congrats! I am truly happy for you both. I remember how I felt when both of my children were born and you are really in for a treat. There is nothing better in this world than children!

Congrats!

Time to add a line item for those college savings accounts!

Let me be the first one to say "Congratulations"! Enjoy your *free time* now because after May you probably won't have enough time to sleep, let alone anything else :)

Congrats!

LOL! Congrats! Looking forward to see how this impacts the blog!

Congratulations!

Congrats on the pregnancy! I wish the best for your wife and baby's health!

2mill and mrs. 2mill:

congratulations!

Congratulations!! It will be a big change but you're well prepared. Guess this makes finding that perfect home a little more urgent.

Congrats! My wife and I are also expecting in May! Would love to read some regular updates on how things are going, as I am trying to post things now and then on my blog.

apologies for this pg13 (?) comment, but this just struck me:

with most products, research and development is the first step, then the parts are created and finally the assembly is done. for babies, the process is reversed, ain't it? :-)

Congratulations 2million!! Wonderful news!

Congratulations!

Congrats!

I'm in much the same boat, but a few months ahead of you. All I can say is that your financial goals will change completely over the next few months.

Congrats!!

My husband and I are expecting our first in April. I look forward to the blog taking a slight tack the same directly we are =)

Oh boy.. you guys have no idea what you're in for. Don't take this personally, but I've been reading your blog for a long time and you guys don't seem to be the type who are ready for a baby in your current state. Fortunately, this is true for 90% of expecting parents and I'm sure your outlook on things will change, for the better or for worse. You do make a good living though, and I'm sure you'll be fine financially -- you'll just have to cut back on certain things though.

You might also want to get rid of 1 or 2 of those investment properties (almost every family I know has gotten rid of their investment properties after having kids, except for 1 guy -- and he is REALLY struggling to balance everything in his life).

You probably read GRS, but in case you missed it, I think this post might be a good read for you guys.

I was only earning $41k/yr when we were expecting our 1st child so I'm jealous of all the financial possibilities you guys have. We're up to $125k now so we're doing just fine, but I'm just saying to plan accordingly. Again congrats and good luck!

Congratulations!!! Just out of curiosity, how old are you 2mill and your wife? Or does anyone else know?

Thank you all! Yup there is no way we are ready to have children, but you know I am not sure we would ever be ready. However, I think we will be fine.

Congrats! We have 2 boys who are now in college. Time goes so quickly. Enjoy all the little moments- they are our best memories.

Congratulations to you both, very exciting news!!

Yay!!!! Congratulations. If you don't have the time to continue your blog, I understand because I just had a newborn and my life has changed completely! It's great.

@ Bill - I believe 2mill is 33 yrs old.

Wo - don't jump the gun - Im only 32 :-).

Congrats!

Congratulations! Your life will change forever. No sleep and posting to the blog will be few and far between. But its all good, the baby will bring you joy and love like you never imagined. I am the father of a 5-month old boy. He is the center of my universe, just like your baby will be. Very happy for you both. Good luck.
