A Sign the Economy is Improving
Perhaps the most clearest sign for me yet that our economy is starting to pick up is that I was actually approved for a business trip at work to China this month.
Since I returned from my assignment in China in October 2008 our organization has been in a travel freeze and I have been unable to conduct any travel for work since then. Personally I love to travel and the past year and a half has been quite boring for me as I have been stuck behind a desk the entire time. Finally I am getting a chance to get out and get some work done. While our travel freeze isn't officially lifted, this is a clear sign to me that restrictions are beginning to loosen and things are definitely improving.

Hey,
I know how hard it is not to be able to travel as much as you'd like. We went south for a wedding 18 months ago and haven't done anything significant since.
Perhaps soon

Yes, same for me. I think that as a whole the economy is starting to turn a corner and companies are now starting to realize that they should be reinvesting into themselves instead of holding their cards too close to the chest.
Personally, I think that a lot of opportunity was missed by some key players because of "The sky is falling" mentality that is so pervasive... but then again, it's easier said than done.

Well, I think maybe everyone is done completely panicking about how bad things can get and are just trying to move on.
