Highlights for December

  • We like to take advantage of 0% APR balance transfers earning interest in my savings accounts, but that well has dried up for now. We are actively looking at taking advantage of new offers on 0% APR on purchases as an additional arbitrage opportunity.
  • We became 3/4 millionaires in December! Its nice to hit another milestone as its been a couple years since the previous ones: May 2008 -$500k, Mar 2006 - $225k.
  • In December we did some tax harvesting and sold some of our stock positions we net losses to reduce our income tax. We sold a portion of our Pfizer (PFE) and USG Corp (USG) holdings that were worth significantly less than we paid for them.
  • Our investment portfolio finally significantly beat our benchmark in December (8.01% vs 6.94%). I'll post additional details of our investment activities in Dec later this month.

Surely a nice way to finish off the year financially! I think 2011 will be a much better year for investments as the economy slowly pulls away from its slump.

Great, great numbers to finish the year with. Are you missing House #3 from the list, or is that left off on purpose?

House #3 was sold in 2009. I just never changed the names to avoid confusing which property was House #3.

2million any advice on my investment portfolio? I own index funds in large cap, small cap, total international fund and in medium term bond fund. I'm looking to diversify into something else next and only thing left I can think of is real estate, previous metals or commodities. Any advice? Thanks.

2 million I'm just curious to know when did you start your financial portfolio. I'm a 25 yr old graduate student finishing in May and my "net worth" is all of 5000. I guess my question is at what age did you start everything (investing and building net worth) and how long has it taken you? I would like to get the ball rolling just as you have but not quite sure where to start.

Alen,
Was in very similar shoes to you, graduated from school at age 25 with a few thousand dollars. Here is more info on my financial goal roadmap that I have been tracking pretty closely too. Also here are the millionaire success factors I think we did to get to where we are today which most have been discussed to some extent through out this site - look through the archives. Good luck!
